The Journey of LAW Foundation
- Mr. Praveen Kumar initiated socio-legal aid services for under-trial prisoners in Bihar as part of the Criminal Justice Fellowship Program at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai.
- During this time, he collaborated with Shubhendu Shekhar (Co-Founder) and Santosh Kumar (Senior Counsel), and together they began addressing systemic issues faced by the custodial population and marginalized communities.
- LAW Foundation was officially registered as a trust under the Indian Trust Act, 1882. Received formal permission and support from the Bihar District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
- Endorsed by Hon'ble Chief Justices Mr. Iqbal Ahmad Ansari and Mr. Rajendra Menon.
- Enabled to work directly with the criminal justice system and the prison population in Bihar.
- LAW Foundation's first major impact was securing the release of 60 inmates from Bihar jails on P.R. bail. It also supported domestic violence victims through counseling and mental health care.
- During the COVID-19 pandemic, LF provided dry ration kits to families of prison inmates, distributing 150 kits during the initial lockdown and 300 kits during the second wave.
- Legal intervention in 212 cases.
- Finalist for the AGAMI Idea Award.
- Collaborated with multiple organizations.
- Launched the Sustainable Mental Health Program inside prisons.
- Conducted Socio-Legal Literacy Programs in marginalized communities of Bihar.
- Established the Research & Development Centre of LAW Foundation.
